Representatives of the Deposit Protection Agency of the Kyrgyz Republic (Executive Director K. D. Bukuev, Deputy Executive Director N. M. Baibosunov, and Head of the Deposit Protection Fund Management Department B. A. Bazarbaev) took part on February 16, 2026 in a conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Association of Microfinance Organizations, on the topic “Toward Sustainable Development Through Microfinance.” At present, among the nine microfinance companies, OJSC MFC Salym Finance, OJSC MFC ABN, and OJSC MFC Elet-Capital hold deposit-taking licenses issued by the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic and are participants in the deposit protection system. Currently, all 23 commercial banks and three microfinance companies are participants in the deposit protection system. The deposit protection system is aimed at protecting depositors of banks, microfinance companies, and housing savings credit companies that hold a National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic license to accept deposits in the event of a guarantee case, by providing compensation in the amount and manner stipulated by law, as well as at supporting the stability of the banking system as a whole. In the event of a guarantee case, in accordance with the law, each depositor is paid compensation of no more than 1,000,000 (one million) soms in total, including interest on deposits. A guarantee case is the revocation by the National Bank of the license of a bank, microfinance company, or housing savings credit company in accordance with the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic “On Banks and Banking Activities” and legislation regulating the activities of housing savings credit companies.
