Today, May 22, 2026, a roundtable organized by the Deposit Protection Agency of the Kyrgyz Republic was held in Bishkek with the participation of representatives of government agencies, the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic, commercial banks, microfinance organizations, international institutions, and sectoral associations and unions. The event addressed current issues in the development of the deposit protection system as one of the key elements for ensuring financial stability and increasing public trust in the banking sector. Particular attention was paid to improving the mechanisms for forming and using the Deposit Protection Fund, as well as to introducing risk-oriented approaches. Priority areas included the transition to a differentiated contribution system based on an assessment of the individual risk profile of participating banks, in line with international principles for effective deposit insurance systems. Roundtable participants reviewed the prospects for a phased increase in the Deposit Protection Fund, which would strengthen its financial resilience, improve the investment efficiency of fund management, and ensure timely fulfillment of obligations to depositors. As a result of the meeting, practical recommendations were developed for the further advancement of the deposit protection system, including improvement of the risk-oriented contribution calculation model, stronger interagency cooperation, development of early response tools, and improvement of public financial literacy. The event became an important platform for professional dialogue and the exchange of experience among financial sector participants, and also contributed to strengthening the stability of the banking system of the Kyrgyz Republic and developing financial inclusion.
